The ancient art form of encaustic has evolved into one of the most exciting mediums available to contemporary artists. This hands-on workshop will explore the luminous beauty and versatility of encaustic art—the fusing by heat of pigmented beeswax.
Learn the basics of encaustic, as well as how to easily and inexpensively incorporate encaustic into your regular studio practice. Discussion topics include: equipment and tools, encaustic medium recipes, pigmenting options, substrate possibilities, and studio safety.
Learn how to create image, texture and line, using a variety of techniques and materials. Demonstrations include intaglio, sgraffito, and the incorporation of collage elements, found objects and image transfers.
No matter your genre or medium, encaustic offers many exciting creative possibilities.
This workshop is open to all levels. No prior experience in encaustic painting is necessary. Prior workshop registrants are welcome. Ample time for hands-on work will be provided.
