The Reality of Illusion
Think you’re seeing double? You will be when you visit the Schneider Gallery. We are pleased to present two psychologically inclined photographers, Cornelia Hediger and Adad Hannah.
Swiss photographer Cornelia Hediger, captures our full attention with her Doppelgänger [the other me] series, shown in images composed of six to nine elements, making a whole. It takes her hours of photographing and days or weeks of planning to achieve the final result. They can be interpreted by the viewer in different ways.
Inspired by Allen Gilbert’s famous optical illusion drawing from 1892, All is Vanity, artist Adad Hannah has achieved his own “illusion within an illusion” in his recreation of that work. Working in Montreal, Canada, Hannah is celebrated for his work in videos, produced after “living tableaux” and still photographs he created simultaneously. What makes these pictures fascinating is trying to guess how they were made!
Please join us as we study the images most intently to notice the hidden, performative, and playful illusions carefully crafted by both artists.
