“Love.Let.Go.” A Series of Simultaneous Sensory Performances at Icosahedron Gallery

“Love.Let.Go.” on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 7PM.

Hybrid.[Theatre].Ensemble in conjunction with Icosahedron Gallery, a prime exemplar gallery of the West Chelsea Art District, is pleased to present “Love.Let.Go.”, an installation performance piece during the opening reception of Icosahedron’s February exhibition, “The Golden Age”. This live performance uses Icosahedron Gallery’s Chelsea ground floor gallery space as the perfect backdrop where each viewer chooses his or her own journey among the five various gallery rooms.

Hybrid.[Theatre].Ensemble, originally based out of Phoenix, Arizona,  will be making its New York City debut with “Love.Let.Go”. Hyrbid has been dedicated to tearing the edifices of conventional theatre by creating a mixology, a collision of the arts. Their past history has created works juxtaposing dance and theatre, the horror film genre and live art, and has been known for their use of non-traditional staging, socially-informative subject matter, and movement, geometry, and textiles to create originally devised pieces.

Love. Let Go." is an installational performance piece centered around the five senses: taste, sight, touch, smell, and sound. Each room of the five rooms of Icosahedron Gallery will be adorned with its own performance centering around a specific sense enrapturing viewers to step into a theatrical experience away from the traditional theatre outing.

The five performances catering to a specific sense will revolve around the idea of love in one way or another--whether self, familial, relationships, passion, lust, etc. The performances are site-specific and use the actor, time, and space as a medium, a canvass, in conjunction with a gallery setting to create a journey that probes the innate human ability to love and be loved.

"Love.Let.Go." is a provocation forcing an emotion, a stirring, a recollection from its viewers that strikes them through one or more of their senses--smell or sight, touch or taste or sound. In a most unconventional way, "Love.Let.Go" is an experiment to test the human mind's cognitive properties through human sensory levels AND how performance interlaced with various (in)organic stimuli can evoke a certain reaction, a distinct reaction or chain thereof, from each onlooker.
