DESCRIPTION

L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA: Rova Saxophone Quartet

Friday, April 1, 7:30 p.m. (Doors 5 p.m., DJ 6:30 p.m.)

Programmed by Sarah Cahill

Rova Saxophone Quartet—Larry Ochs, Jon Raskin, Bruce Ackley, and Steve Adams—explores the synthesis of composition and collective improvisation, creating exciting, genre-bending music that challenges and inspires its audiences. Rova is one of the longest-standing groups in the new music movement, with roots in post-bop, free jazz, avant-rock, and twentieth-century new music, and draws inspiration from the visual arts and from the traditional and popular music styles of Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. Rova will work with Gallery B’s intriguing acoustic properties to create a fascinating event exploring the concept of sound in space.

L@TE: Friday Nights @ BAM/PFA

Friday night programs typically begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gallery B; doors open at 5 p.m. with DJs in the lobby or Gallery B at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $7; free for BAM/PFA members and Cal students.
