Futurefarmers/MATRIX 236:

Screening/Performance: Excursions into Domains of Familiarity and Surprise

San Francisco-based collective Futurefarmers is spending the academic year in residency at the University exploring the production and the limits of knowledge. As a framework for this research, Futurefarmers is drawing on the iconic 1977 film Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames and its central image of a picnic on a blanket. Research events will be documented and made available through the project website and related publication, and will also serve as fodder for a series of public programs at BAM/PFA.

Screening/Performance: Excursions into Domains of Familiarity and Surprise

February 6, 2010, 3 p.m. - Museum Theater

(Included with museum admission)

This first event frames the research process, starting from the known and reaching forward to the unknown. The program includes a screening of Powers of Ten and other special shorts (some drawn from BAM/PFA’s collection), alongside sound and visual phenomena inspired the film. This program features Futurefarmers with special guests.

Follow along with documentation of the research and updated details about events at futurefarmers.com/powersoften.
