DESCRIPTION

The Department of Art History at U.C. Berkeley presents:

Walter Horn and Hitler's Holy Relics

-- author's talk by Sidney Kirkpatrick & champagne reception --

Wednesday, April 28, 5:30pm

Morrison Reading Room
Doe Library, ground floor (U.C. Berkeley campus)

Bestselling author SIDNEY KIRKPATRICK speaks on the life and Indiana Jones-worthy World War II exploits of Walter Horn, founder of the Berkeley Art History Department. The reading coincides with the forthcoming publication of his new book:

HITLER'S HOLY RELICS: A True Story of Nazi Plunder and the Race to Recover the Crown Jewels of the Holy Roman Empire.

"Kirkpatrick tells the riveting and never-before-told true story
of how an American college professor turned Army sleuth recovered
these cherished symbols of Hitler’s Thousand-Year Reich before they
could become a rallying point in the creation of a Fourth Reich."

Beate Fricke, professor of Medieval Art History, will introduce the author with a presentation on Horn as a medievalist and art historian and will explain his role in the founding of our department. Prof. Emeritus Peter Selz will conclude the evening with a prolonged toast celebrating Walter Horn, his longtime friend and colleague.

Please join us after the event at a complimentary champagne reception to toast Sidney Kirkpatrick and our department's storied history.

This event is our first FUNDRAISER for the DEPARTMENT OF ART HISTORY, in response to recent budget cuts to the University of California, which gravely affected our department. All proceeds are to benefit the Walter Horn Fund for Graduate Studies in the History of Art. Please join us!

Tickets are $25
(Free for Berkeley students)
