        Even seemingly shy artists need some levening of ego to persuade themselves that viewers will want to see what they have to show.  But exhibition spaces known as 'vanity galleries' are almost always irrelevant and awful. Funded by artists who couldn't interest curators, the weak work and its desperate bids for attention mean they rarely receive any.
