Captivated by the endless aesthetic and formal possibilities of the materiality of the human body, Ophelia Jacarini makes a highly sensuous and tactile impression of surface in her paintings. Subjects are imbued with a sculptural yet elusive dimensionality that verges on the abstract. The human body stands as a perfect subject with regards to her background both from fashion and fine arts. After a long study on the body as an envelope, she turned her focus to the intangible, such as mental madness,or the fetal memories.
In 2013 Ophelia went on a 1 year journey travels around Asia to study minority costumes. She learnt how to create embroideries, pattern, motif, dying, fabrics... This made her realize that she was more interested by the relation between the body and the costume more that the costume itself.
In recent projects, she renews her enduring figurative investigations by creating installations that challenge perceptions of the body, energy, time and space. She is interested in cultivating spaces in which the mind and body can listen and the heart can open. In this state individuals find the possibility of fresh insights and new connections between themselves and the world around them.
Ophelia Jacarini was born in 1991 in France, studied both Fashion Design at “Atelier Chardon Savard” school and Fine Arts at “École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts” in Paris.
Recent solo exhibitions at lightstage Gallery Hong Kong ( 2017 ), Villa Baronne Alfirri, Sicily, Italy ( 2017 ). Ophelia was also invited by Le French May Art Festival in HK to create an art piece in 4 days ( sensitiveness ).
