San Francisco Artist Georgianne Fastaia I had the honor of showing my works with fantastic San Francisco artist Georgianne Fastaia. Her works - mostly figures and landscape or cityscape - have rich textures and great atmosphere. Her figures often boldly claim large portion of the canvases, giving them a sense of timeless monumentality, yet they are abruptly confronted by the edges of the canvases, making them somewhat vulnerable, therefore the complexity of the figures and the paintings...         Twiggy's complacent doe-eyed stare is an obvious subject for a pop-art themed show. The iconic aloofness of the model set against bold red and white geometric abstractions feels all too familiar. I've seen this. Like on a t-shirt somewhere. Or a purse in Chinatown. I feel had. The work, done by Jenny Wehrt, is pop-art verbatim, in color scheme, in spatial compression, in subject matter: iconic mod superstars from Britain. Brit-pop-art. With the exception of Winston Churchill... [more]

Among a goup show featured this month at the Artist-Xchange on 16th Street is the work of local artist Maureen Shields. Armed with the basic tools of acrylic paints and molded wooden canvases, Shields creates cute childlike images, cuddly creatures and playful school girls. In her paintings, happy little girls play games in their dream world with various imaginary creatures such as a baby deer and a half man, half seahorse. She paints them very flat, but usually with one rich, lively color as a... [more]
