With Moby-Dick, the Wattis presents the second of three shows rousting the spirits of great American literature. Although painted like a Nautica bedroom set with navy walls and white text, each room conjures the salty atmosphere of a heaving ship with alternately droning and ranting snippets from Orson Welles's recitation of Moby Dick. As with his previous shows, Matthew Benedict tells a crooked tale with his latest at Alexander and Bonin. Using an illustrative trompe l'oeil technique, his sculptures and paintings delve into apocryphal narratives that find their kin in maritime piracy and  the masonic brotherhoods, with plenty of symbolism to go around.
