Artist Statement
I am drawn to the inherent beauty and spirit of the natural world, and my artwork is a personal dialogue that reaches into the stillness of that spirit. Through both imagery and medium, I create organic pieces that speak to the cycles of life, memory, longing, and the passage of time. I have always been sensitive to my physical and emotional environment and painting allows me to make sense of both the inner and outer worlds. My work is rooted in the personal and each painting is an abstract of my experiences, my history, my dreams, and my visions. My paintings start from a place of intuition and are an exploration of the materials in front of me. I seek to create something that is neither abstract nor realistic, but rather a marriage of the two. My mixed media paintings incorporate moments captured by my original photographs with the richness of paint, creating a bridge between two worlds- the real and the reconstructed. I build up layers of paint with photo transfers to create depth in both form and meaning. The canvas becomes a multilayered surface that speaks to both the visual and tactile senses. This integration of diverse layers creates an intimate connection that invites exploration and tells my story.
