Jigsawmentallama is titled after an instrumental composition by the Virgin Prunes. And while different versions of the song exist, each alternate is defined by the same haunting atmospheric melody, which isn’t quite echoed in the works on display at DCP. Maybe the title is just homage, but the majority of works seem cut from a much brighter cloth. Co-curator Lisa Ostapinksi and Gabe Scott lined this downtown gallery/performance space with works that for the most part emphasize fabulous animals. Over the mike-stand cluttered stage is a billboard sized mashup of Ol’ Abe and New Hope: Barackraham Lincolnbama. Hannah Stouffer’s gouaches on colored paper have dueling skeletons of mermaids, minotaurs and werewolves, doubled and trapped in the coils of transparent serpents. Just down the street from its original location at 14th and Guerrero, the Kiki Gallery--by all accounts a tiny, interdisciplinary space--has been resurrected by artist Colter Jacobsen and writer Kevin Killian at Ratio 3.
