Yehudis Harris/Barmatz

Yehudis Barmatz-Harris (b. 1985) was born in Boston, Massachusetts and currently lives and works in Jerusalem, Israel. She studied sculpture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn (BFA, 2008). Yehudis Barmatz-Harris' first exhibited art piece was in a juried group show called Shifts, A Brooklyn vs. Baltimore Pratt/MICA student sculpture exhibition in 2007. During the year 2007 she also collaborated in a Public art project devised and run by Belgium public artist Hans Winkler. Her piece for the collaboration was called Anarchist Rabbi and was featured in the project newspaper called "Good News," which was distributed through out New York City. As a graduating senior her work was displayed in the Pratt Institute's BFA sculpture show.
Yehudis Barmatz-Harris has also worked as an assistant to the curator David Gibson in New York City, interviewing and writing curatorial notes for his work in progress. She has conducted interviews of artists in Israel, working as reporter for Individual Collective/Sarah Lehat and contributing articles for Jewish Art Now.
In May 2011 her piece "mother figures" was displayed in a show called "Language" featuring young immigrant artists in Israel, at the Museum Asirei Hamichtarot in Jerusalem.In June 2014 the digital multimedia work "Breaking of the Vessels" displayed in a digital exhibition "FusedArt Israel" in the House of Israel, Balboa Park.
In addition to her Fine Arts practice, Yehudis Barmatz-Harris has been involved in teaching arts to a variety of populations, including tutoring an autistic adult who now is an exhibiting artist, giving workshops in an eating disorder rehab, and painting and drawing classes to elementary and highschool students within the ultra orthodox community. Yehudis's working philosophy for herself and when giving over to others is a belief in the process and achievements in creative arts as providing confidence and healing, in addition to tools for expression and reflection. This philosophy is .expressed in her own personal works
Yehudis is currently practicing art, and Art Therapy, and pursuing interviews and writing on the religious artists of Israel.
