ABOUT THE EVENT:
This Event will be an art and cultural experience, exhibiting fine art from Detroit’s top artists, and artists abroad, along with musical performances, dance performances, a wearable’s runway show, and an auction of a custom piece made for the event, all to raise money for a good cause while showcasing the best of what Detroit and abroad has to offer.
The restorative powers of art and music are undeniable. They cut through to the most human parts of us, the ghosts we carry with us, and give language and experience to feelings, to heal what is often unseen. In creating an experience that engages all the senses with art, performance, music, food and delights, it is our aim to wholly envelope the attendees in an immersive evening, elevating the restorative powers of culture, art, and the celebration of life, while raising awareness and money for those most in need. As a way to give back to our community, Galleri 2987 and Things Feel Heavy will be donating the proceeds from the night’s event to, “Alternatives For Girls” an organization that provides help, prevention, assistance, shelter, and outreach to high-risk girls and young women.
CALL FOR ART:
Things Feel Heavy and Galleri 2987 invite you to submit your work. We encourage artists working in any medium, 2D, 3D, performance, dance, wearables, video, etc. We are looking for artwork centered around the idea of "You Can't Touch a Ghost", or work about the unseen things we feel deeply, that do not necessarily have form or definition. The process of creating work is often about aestheticizing feelings and emotions, and giving voice to thought. It is about creating something tangible from the amorphous and undefinable parts of our selves; the essence of what makes us individual and human. It is the end product of a life lived in varying states, the paths we choose, the encounters we've had, and inversely, all the opposites. The paths not taken and the ghosts we carry with us.
We are very open to how you might interpret this idea and theme, and largely are looking for very strong work, with well developed concepts and aesthetics.
Artwork will be for sale throughout the duration of the Show, the gallery will not be taking a percentage of any sold work*. Instead we are encouraging each artist to consider donating a percentage of any sale of work to the organization this Charity Event is supporting: "Alternatives for Girls". We will let each artist determine what percentage they would like to donate, please adjust your pricing accordingly. ******PLEASE INDICATE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SUBMISSION EMAIL IF YOU WOULD LIKE A PERCENTAGE OF YOUR SALES TO GO TO THE CHARITY, AND IF SO, WHAT PERCENTAGE!!*********
Blick Art Materials is also one of many of the generous sponsors supporting this event, and will be gifting each selected artist with a Thank You goodie bag of art supplies to show their (and our) appreciation for being a part of this event!
HOW TO SUBMIT:
For submission guidelines and to apply to the show, please visit the Things Feel Heavy website link below, and help spread the word by sharing with fellow artists.

Collection, Contributions, and Donations:
We are trying to get as many sponsors involved to keep our costs at a bare minimum, but everything made beyond covering our costs, will be donated to Alternatives for Girls. We do charge a small artists submission fee to apply to show in the exhibition, which will cover the costs of the live music and hopefully any food, drink and rentals costs that cannot be sponsored. We are also going to charge a door fee of $15 entrance for the night that includes art viewing, performances, food and open bar (selected artists will be exempt), as well as have an onsite donation box for our more affluent attendees. This way we are not excluding any members of the community who would like to attend and support the event, but are also giving the option for those who can donate more, to do so the night of. We are also having a custom artwork created for the event, which will be auctioned off that night. The artist is generously donating half of all raffle sales to the organization.
**Lastly, the gallery is not taking any percentage of sales of work for the exhibition, but instead encouraging the artists to donate a percentage of the sale to the Alternatives for Girls.
