Mark Schatz (b. 1975)
Frequently utilizing existing spaces, simple construction materials, and accumulations of castoff materials, Mark tries to evoke something deeply familiar in surprising ways. He acknowledges and even relishes the fragmentation, distortion, and reinvention of remembered places.
Mark Schatz's work spans sculpture, installation, prints, and photography and has been shown widely including the exhibition “New Image Sculpture” at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, and his work is included in the permanent collection of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Mark Schatz is an Assistant Professor and Foundations Program Coordinator for the School of Art at Kent State University.
