‘Wastelands’ at 313 Gallery in Jersey City, New Jersey 4/12/14-5/18/14
This is an open call for a multimedia show on the concept of ‘wastelands’.
In this exhibition artists from Jersey City and Chicago will explore ‘wastelands’ with an eye towards their meaning in a contemporary post-human society. A wasteland can describe many things: Derelict warehouses. Endless flatlands. Interpersonal voids created by the incessant interruptions of digital communication. Degradation of culture by apathetic citizens. Deprivation as well as excess. Landscapes, psychic and physical that are defined by loss, but not by emptiness. The aftermath of an apocalypse that never was.
The works submitted to this show will be curated to create a collective vision of what ‘wastelands’ mean in 2014.
