With Art Basel in town, all eyes are on Miami and focused on Wynwood, now that street art has gained credibility as real art. Ahol Sniffs Glue is one of Miami’s most prolific street artists. His characteristic, repetitive eyeballs grace the interior and exterior walls of the Magic City’s hippest businesses, like coffee shop and record store Sweat Records. Ahol’s optic images are also seen on murals in the Wynwood Arts District; his eyeballs bubble up from sidewalks, multiplying, spreading, and invading the streets like a disease, while the artist’s ubiquitous stickers are bombed over restaurants, businesses, sidewalks and streets. A Miami native, Ahol Sniffs Glue also displays works on canvas; along with his simple, identifiable eyeballs, he also draws monsters.
For Miami’s Art Week, Ahol will paint a mermaid mural on the interior of the happening hipster hotspot Gramps Bar, which is sandwiched between the galleries. The young artist will also display works at Greg Shienbaum Fine Art in Wynwood; the gallery will be showing Ahol Sniffs Glue’s pieces at the Scope Art Fair 2013 from December 3 to 9.
