call for entries - THE INSTAGRAM SHOW - celebrating the art of the cameraphone

Calling all Instagrammers! Melrose Lightspace is sponsoring an exhibition of the most compelling INSTAGRAM style images on the web.  All styles and subject matter are welcome for submission. This juried exhibition will select the best entries, to be printed and displayed at Melrose Lightspace in West Hollywood, CA, December 5-7. The exhibit will be free and open to the public with a preview December 5th and artist receptions December 6th and 7th.
Send us up to five of your best Instagram or Hipstamatic / Oggl  images at their highest resolution from your camera roll or  computer. Photos can be taken by any camera, but must be finished with a phone application. (Final image must be a square).
We'll print and matte the top entries for display and sale at the show.
All pieces will priced at $50 each.
Artist keeps 80% of all sales.
Unsold work will be the artist's to keep (additional prints available at cost).

First prize includes aSchneider optics  iPro Lens system with 3 lenses: ($200 value).
Metal prints up to 24 x 24 to each of the top three places in the juried competition.
40 page 12 x12 book - also to each of the top 3 winners.

Selected artist will be required to pay a $25 participation fee per image.  this covers the cost a professional 8"x10" print plus mounting (which the artist gets to keep if unsold - shipping not included).  Fee also covers additional costs associated with hosting the event.
Additional gallery prints may be purchased by the artist for $18 plus shipping and handling.

Peter Michelena is a Los Angeles based photographer and fine artist. Michelena's professional career began while he was a student at Art Center College of Design, his work featured on movie posters and on magazine and CD covers. In 2000, he opened Melrose Lightspace, a West Hollywood creative space for photo shoots, art exhibitions, performance events, workshops and weekly figure drawing classes.
In addition to his commercial photography, Michelena has produced a significant body of fine art, combining alternative photographic processes and abstract painting. His work can be found in many private collections and commissions are welcome. When not in the studio or on location, Peter likes to surf and swim, or you might just find him walking in his Larchmont neighborhood, his dog Daisy leading the way. Documentary / street photographer, filmmaker Michael Rababy likes taking pictures of people.  He studied art history at the University of San Diego before spending time in Paris. Taking influence from Henri Toulouse-Lautrec and Henri Cartier-Bresson, his ethnographic documentary book, American Bachelor details the highs and lows of the single male.  His credits include The VICE Magazine Photo Book, Mercedes-Benz / Merkley and Partners, E!, the style network, Fine Living, People Magazine, LA Weekly, the Village Voice, Time-Out New York, Hamburger Eyes, Citizen LA, and LA Canvas.  His street photography was featured in Girlfriend Confidential:LA and he was the official portrait photographer for The Learning Channel's highly rated series LA Ink.
His short film Still Lives, which tells a story through black and white still photographs set to piano music, premiered at the Palm Springs International Short film Festival, was an official selection of the Miami Short Film Festival and screened at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival. 
Michael lives in Southern California with his record collection and is currently at work on his latest masterpiece.
