Printed Matter occassionally organizes exhibitions, showcasing both emerging and established artists, that address particular issues or approaches or histories.
Printed Matter, Inc., the New York-based non-profit organization committed to the dissemination and appreciation of publications made by artists, will host a Benefit Auction and Selling Exhibition at the Rauschenberg Foundation Project Space to help mitigate damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. During the storm, Printed Matter experienced severe basement flooding resulting in the loss of 9,000 books, as well as significant damage to their 36-year-old archive. Proceeds from the Benefit will support their recovery as well as aid the organization in its capacity-building effort to establish a more durable foundation for its services into the future.
The Sandy Relief Benefit Auction has three basic components: a selling exhibition of rare publications and other donated works; an online, silent auction of artworks on display at the venue; and a live auction of selected works that will close the Benefit on March 9.
