Darnell Fine Art is pleased to announce the addition of abstract painter Monroe Hodder to the gallery’s roster of artists. The gallery is currently presenting three of Hodder’s newest monumental canvases that have recently arrived from the artist’s London studio. These lush, beautiful, colorful abstract works measure 72” x 64”. It is easy to be seduced by Hodder’s chromatic sensations, her powerful voice of color inclusive of improbable combinations. She fills the canvas with paint in a geometric and repetitive format that recalls the minimalist style. Painting in “messy” stripes that wobble around and go out of bounds she disrupts her own geometry, the necessary starting point for Hodder’s work. Quoting the artist, “ My impulse is to fill up an abstract repetitive structure with the delicious disorder of paint”

Ms. Hodder holds a BA from Vassar College, an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MBA from Stanford University. She has been both student and teacher at the Art Students League in New York City. She has worked as a studio assistant to famed Mexican artist Manuel Neri and had associations with Clifford Still and Mark Rothko. In 2008 The Contemporary Art Museum / Denver added Hodder to their permanent collection. She is included in the 33rd edition of “Who’s Who in American Art’ and has been interviewed for the PBS series ARTNEWS. Reviews and juried exhibits include favorable commentary by Lucy Lippard and Caroline Compston, former curator at the Tate Museums, London. The artist currently divides her time between studios in London and Northern Colorado.
