Imperial Deluxe showcases new, large-scale sculptures by Emma Spertus. The exhibition is inspired by the entry signs to corporate business parks, the droll offices often found on the periphery of cities and suburbs. Jargonistic titles like "Promise Technology" and "Sonnet" are incorporated into the sculptures' surfaces, the text appropriated by the artist from an audio-visual supply catalog.
Spertus satirizes corporate branding and architecture, highlighting the most overlooked and subtle manifestations of capitalist culture. Using common building materials to fabricate the works themselves, Spertus recontextualizes the objects and spaces we so casually interact with while exposing the cultural scaffolding from which they spring.
