MAY 23-26, 2013
Methfesselstrasse 28, 10965 Berlin
OPENING 07:00 PM
Artistdock presents its first exhibition Unterströmung which will take place in the Sixtus Villa in Kreuzberg from Thursday May 23 until the 26.
In nature an Unterströmung, or undercurrent, is a sub-surface flow of water which travels below the superficial stream, relatively free of external influence. As the theme for Artistdock´s first exhibition, Unterströmungbrings together an international and multi-generational group of Berlin-based artists whose works visualize singular flows.
From Hendrik Wolking´s voyeurism of webcam peepshows to Dario Srbic´s long exposure photographic prints of a dancer, or Yasmin Alt´s linear wooden structure, all the works on view express individual attempts to materialize physical and metaphorical movements. They are not only interpretations of motion, but discourse on dichotomies intrinsic to artistic production-- the visible and invisible, the mainstream and alternative, the collective and independent.
All the artists in the exhibition are currently not represented by any gallery, a matter which extends the theme to the artists’ own independence. They are, however, part of Artistdock, whose mission is to innovate methods of artistic mediation by allowing artists to choose their own outlets of representation. A survey of the independent artistic trajectory, the exhibition aims to foster discourse on the meaning of self-determined artistic practice.
