Skin is a membrane, a protective layer, a shelter, the division between inner and outer, interiority and exteriority.  Skin is malleable and pliable, but it can also be punctured, stretched, fetishized, mythicized.

With these works, the artists are posing questions as to the many identities of skin.  While some kept the skin intact, others punctured its barrier to investigate its ability to simultaneously hide and reveal.  And while some pulled at the dimensions of skin, others violated it, as a way to explore the psychology of a boundary that is meant to be protective, but is so often delicate and easily broken.

What skins do we surround ourselves with?  Do we cover ourselves with a mass-produced, consumerist husk for beauty, security, or comfort?  Or do we transform, destroy, and subvert the epidermis of our environments and surroundings to elevate our ideals and ourselves?

This collection of painting, drawing, photography, film and installation explores these concepts and more.  In this interdisciplinary, multidimensional collection of work, we are asking the viewer to discover and interact with our skins, and with their own.
