DESCRIPTION

Meulensteen is proud to announce Mind Over Matter, a group show of contemporary ceramics curated by Annabeth Rosen, including work by John Chwekun, Benjamin DeMott, Julia Haft-Candell, Mary Alison Lucas, Jim Melchert, Joyce Robins, Jim Shrosbree, and Lisa Wolkow. The exhibition takes as its point of departure the work and legacy of Richard Devore, whose black vessels will be exhibited concurrently in the gallery’s main space. Rosen explains:

The work in Mind Over Matter explores the medium of ceramics as something other than form. The sculptures, with little matter and less form, reflect eccentric geometries and capture the unexpected and sometimes unpremeditated work that comes from exploring matter, following the natural order of an idiosyncratic logic. This exhibition and the concurrent exhibition of Richard DeVore’s work at Meulensteen act as foils for each other, coming from opposite directions, aiming for intimacy, and both exploiting and transcending material.
