Sculpture & Video: New Additions to the Collection
New Additions to the Collection including Franz West, Sara Barker, Zilvinas Kempinas, Ivan Navarro, Bill Viola, Peter Friedl & Kota Ezawa. In this exhibition new works of sculpture and video by both established and emerging artists are added to the permanent sculpture and video installations at the Warehouse. Austrian artist Franz West has been producing innovative and evocative sculpture since the nineteen-seventies. His Wall on Wall Paint, 2003 is a major three part abstract sculpture made of plaster, gauze, printed paper and plastic. Bill Viola’s 16 minute video Tempest (Study for the Raft) is a color high definition video projection with sound that depicts a group of nineteen men and women from a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds who are suddenly struck by a massive onslaught of water from a high pressure hose. The action unfolds in extreme slow motion to reveal subtle nuances of light, color, and individual expressions and gestures of the figures.
