DESCRIPTION

In conjunction with Tropic magazine’s ModWeekend 2013 and 10utside, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale presents a pair of large-scale photography works, one outside and one inside, by the Hilton Brothers. The Hilton Brothers is a collaborative partnership between Christopher Makos and Paul Solberg, which began over eight years ago. The two works on view come from the Hilton Brothers’ 2007 series Andy Dandy.  Each work combines an image from Makos’s celebrated Altered Image collaboration with Andy Warhol—in which Makos photographed Warhol dressed as a woman, in wig and make up--with an image from Solberg’s Bloom series. The pairing creates a provocative dialogue on themes of beauty and self-image. One work is displayed on the museum’s south façade, the other as a framed diptych in the museum lobby.

This presentation is part of Foto Fort Lauderdale, a new initiative that makes the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale a long-term home for photography. Through exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and other programs, museums visitors will be able to experience photography at any time during the year. Foto Fort Lauderdale is sponsored by Stiles, with additional support provided by Northern Trust.
