DESCRIPTION

In our gallery in AMSTERDAM, we are proud to present a solo show of the Chinese contemporary photographer Wang Ningde (1972). His work stands for a China in an undoubtedly contemporary manner, yet the weight of the Cultural Revolution is very much present.

In his best-known photographic series “Some Days” in which his subjects have their eyes closed, the images relate to his own childhood, his growing up, his family, the memory, sexuality. Yet they form a general inquire into these matters too, and although peaceful and meditative, they can be quietly unsettling.

Wang Ningde graduated from the Photography Department of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang in 1995. Wang Ningde currently works and lives in Beijing. His work is in the private collection of Dr. Uli Sigg Collection, Switzerland, the Franks-Suss Collection, London, the Guy & Myriam Ullens Collection, Beijing, The Estella Collection, New York and the Red Mansion Foundation, London.
