NDS and Gallery Diet are pleased to present Hard Poems in Space new collaborative project.

We will be bringing together invited artists and designers to produce functional objects, which will be exhibited at NDS in the Design Distrct. Participants may work individually or collaboratively, but with the goal of creating an overall exchange between different practices, as well as to think of the exhibition space as a dynamic, interactive social environment. A series of events and performances will be scheduled throughout the exhibition, in order to activate and interact with the created objects.

The project will take place in three stages...

A "brainstorm" phase throughout July, which will include gatherings/discussions with participants and invited industry professionals. This phase of the project will help to inspire and guide the participants, with topics ranging from current design trends to relevant historical reference points, as well as to address fabrication challenges.

A "buildout" phase throughout August in which workspace at Gallery Diet and NDS, will be made available to produce the objects. Participants are encouraged to use the communal space in order to foster connections between the objects and the various practices... gatherings/discussions will continue throughout this portion of the project.

A final "exhibition" to open in September and last thru December (with an Art Basel event) at NDS. This setting will also serve as the stage for special projects, performances and events throughout the duration of the exhibition. Guest curators/organizers from different fields, will be invited to develop this programing.

Through this project NDS and Gallery Diet seek to facilitate a space for Artists and Designers to explore the potential of creating functional objects, which can exist outside of their regular practices, and have an ongoing life beyond the original prototype.
