IN TWO MINDS
A 6-man exhibition curated by Rowena Chiu
'In Two Minds' is a group exhibition that plays with notions of balance, tipping points and liminal spaces.
This six-man show brings together work by emerging and established artists to explore the significance of transition; the spaces in-between; the journey rather than the destination. This exhibition is interested in exploring the state in which something can be dynamic in its stillness, the idea of motion without direction.
Works in this carefully considered exhibition offer up moments of becoming, whether with the quiet intensity of Kirk Palmer’s video installation ‘Murmur’ in which the forested hills of Kyoto sway with the wind or in the meditative sculptures of Yukako Shibata which take organic forms as their starting point.
David Spero’s 'Ball photographs’ encapsulate elements of stillness and balance, whereby a single gesture transforms the otherwise inanimate landscape into a dynamic one.
Stewart Cliff’s unassuming paintings offer a moment between looking and recognition with the artist’s simple rendering of everyday domestic objects into the semi-abstract.
For this exhibition, Henry Krokatsis will be making a new work in response to the concept of the show and Chino Moya will be reworking excerpts from Yasujiro Ozu film archives. Each of the works in this exhibition contains within it an element of the monumental in its quietness.
This is an exhibition about potentiality, and allowing the space for it.
