Beyond the Pillars of Hercules: ‘Day Trippers’ and ‘Made in China’
Eva Lis (presentation talk only) is a Polish-born artist living and working in East London. She will talk about her previous projects, ‘Day Trippers’ and ‘Made in China’, which dealt with issues of migration, globalization, morality and exploitation. For her, political borders and economic status are the equivalent of the Pillars of Hercules. While the affluent travel in search of authenticity and uniqueness, the less fortunate migrate in search of improved financial and social conditions. Lis is an AHRC award recipient and in 2010 graduated from the Slade UCL with an MA in sculpture and was awarded the Prankerd-Jones Memorial Prize. Among her past projects are ‘Travelling Light’ at the 53rd Venice Biennale with WW Gallery and Pharos, and ‘The Universe Project’, a multimedia art project commissioned by the Grimm film production company in Oslo.
