In April this year, Converse and Dazed & Confused launched the Converse/Dazed 2010 Emerging Artists Award. This major new art prize is designed to offer an exciting platform to emerging artists under the age of 35, with a first prize of £6,000 for the winner and £1,000 for the other four shortlisted artists.  Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to host the prize exhibition.

A panel of art industry insiders -  Sadie Coles, Mark Titchner, Tim Marlow, Tom Morton, Isobel Harbison, and Dazed's Francesca Gavin - decided between hundreds of entries on a final shortlist of five: Francesca Anfossi, Peter Ainsworth, Steve Bishop, Laura Buckley and Jess Flood-Paddock.

Converse and Dazed & Confused are delighted to announce that the overall winner of the Converse/Dazed 2010 Emerging Artists Award has now been decided.  The winner is Peter Ainsworth, who will be displaying work from his Covered series at Stephen Friedman Gallery from July 30, alongside the work of the other four shorlisted artists.

"Peter's work stood out to the judging panel for his ability to transform a deeply personal and near autobiographical experience into an abstract idea that the audience could engage with," says Francesca Gavin, Dazed's visual arts editor. "His use of photography to document objects lends an air of authenticity to the work, and it is an exciting use of the medium."
