accepting Franchise submissions now

Franchise Program 2013-14

Just 2 weeks left to submit your proposal.

apexart's Franchise call is now open and accepting submissions through May 3 for exhibition ideas that take place anywhere in the world other than New York City. Three winners will receive the funding and administrative support from apexart to mount their show anywhere in the world during our 2013-2014 season.

Exhibitions can be about any idea or theme that the organizer finds compelling. Past shows have explored highway construction in Mexico City; climate in Los Angeles; manufacturing in Bangkok; immigration in Stockholm; and video DJs in Kampala. No prior curatorial experience is required and we welcome submissions from people of all backgrounds. An international jury of more than 100 people in multiple disciplines selects the winning proposals.

Some Franchise FAQs

Q: Do I have to be a trained curator?
A: Absolutely not. Previous curatorial experience is in no way required, and the jury will not have any knowledge of your prior work.

Q: Do I need to contact and confirm artists prior to submitting?
A: You do not need to contact artists prior to applying. We expect that the list may change while the context will not.

Q: Do I need to secure a site/exhibition space for my exhibition in advance?
A: Not at all, apexart will assist in securing a space for the exhibition period and in any other "business" transactions.

Q: What does the budget cover?
A: Artists fees, all related travel, transport of art, installation materials, staff, etc.
