Phone Booth Gallery is proud to present "Mundane," a solo exhibition of charcoal drawings by Long Beach based creature designer and illustrator Kevin Bannister. The exhibit will run From March 7, 2009 to March 31, 2009, and the opening party will be held on March 7 from 7pm-10pm.  The All Ages event will be located at 501 E. Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802.

Bannister's medium of choice for "Mundane" is black and white charcoal on grey paper, drawn with a steady hand and exceptional attention to detail.  Using landscape, cityscape, and a variety of bystanders and atmospheres, he juxtaposes anatomically fantastical creatures with scenes that might otherwise be dull as dishwater.

Evolved out of an interest in achieving a strong sense of credibility and narrative in his work, as well as his fascination with alien wildlife, the Mundane series draws on the artist's memories of growing up in his hometown of Yucaipa, and the conviction that there are still strange and exciting things out there.

The animals and beings in this series aren't from another planet. They've always been here, doing laundry, raiding dumpsters, taking Fridays off, chewing up your plants and drinking out of your pool again, even though it makes them sick and you found at least four dead ones under your porch last week.
