Born in Orange County in 1982, Diana DeAugustine received her B.A. in Visual Arts Studio (Honors) from the University of California San Diego in 2004. Diana is attending California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and will graduate with an M.F.A in 2010. Currently she is focused on the hybrid art form of tattooing and painting with the intent to move fluidly between both mediums to create an interesting dialogue about the body, skin and metaphorical images about ephemeral experiences in life.
These.Things. is a series of paintings about love's visual poetry. Fragmented and morphed anatomical organs juxtaposed with symbols of the ephemeral support Roland Barthe's notion of the lover's discourse as "an extreme solitude". The text within each painting differs from the title serving to affirm the severed corporeality experienced when in this transient state of lust. These.Things. harbor the vulnerability of defenseless exposure while simultaneously affirming the beauty of falling in and out of love.
