Online press release with images:

La Luz de Jesus is proud to present two Southern Californian artists who are also known for their commercial animation and illustration works!

Dale Sizer paints homages to classic retro themes particularly drawing on his childhood fascination with all things tropical to create mash-ups of Polynesian pop and pulp romance. Rough and tumble lovelorn ladies gaze from mid century houses and dangerous vixens hang out in front of the Space Needle. Sizer, a resident of Los Angeles, is also obsessed with vintage Hollywood. Images of old and tawdry tinsel town shape the aesthetic of his pop culture paintings. From the sexy vintage pinup to the darkly nostalgic film noir, Hollywood’s glamorous pop icons mold Sizer’s cartoonish visions. Sizer’s background in the animation departments of Hanna Barbera, Warner Bros, Disney and Film Roman have influenced his recent metal flake vinyl in acrylic portraits of dogs, dames and deserts.

Miles Thompson has cultivated his inspirations from his home state of California’s history and culture with specific interest in its abundant natural resources and unique inherent beauty within. His works draw from the myriad of inhabitants living here regardless of species or nationality, a deep love of surf and comic culture, and macabre supernatural Mexican pulp roots. With surfers, girls, tikis, cartoon characters and hobos as his cast of characters, Thompson’s work is quite a ride for the senses. A lifelong surfer who grew up in the Californian sun and Pacific waters of the cowboy coast, Thompson has lived in coastal Orange County, Tijuana adjacent San Diego and Los Angeles. Coming out of the character animation program at CalArts, Miles eventually went on to do various shorts for Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted Festival, and since has worked on television shows for Nickelodeon, Disney, Film Roman and Warner Brothers.
