Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition
Boston (June 8th, 2009) – PRAISED BY THE BOSTON GLOBE AS STARTLING AND
ORIGINAL, THE FOURTH ANNUAL BOSTON YOUNG CONTEMPORARIES EXHIBITION
OPENS June 26th at the 808 Gallery.
The show features some of the best emerging artists in New England. With over 70 artists representing
11 Master of Fine Arts and Post-Baccalaureate programs, this year's wide-ranging show includes a
variety of contemporary painting, photography, prints, video and sculpture.
Boston Young Contemporaries is an organization established in 2006 by three Boston University
graduate students aimed to highlight the exciting contemporary art scene in Boston. The show provides
a meeting point for many artists, curators and gallery owners from the Boston area and beyond. Each
year, the show inspires collaborations and leads to participation in other exhibitions in various galleries
and museums throughout New England.
This year's panel included three distinguished jurors:
Ken Tyler, master printmaker and major figure in the explosion of American printmaking that has
taken place over the past 30 years.
Kayla Mohammadi, Boston-based artist and recipient of the 2008 Joan Mitchell Foundation Award.
George Kinghorn, director of the University of Maine Museum of Art, and former executive director
of the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art (JMOCA).
The 89 works in the show were rigorously selected to illustrate the broad spectrum of what is
contemporary now. Two of the jurors will be distributing prizes of cash and art materials at the opening
This year's BYC is possible by the support of Boston University, University of New Hampshire, Gapka
