Sacred Rites of Passage
An Exhibit That Explores the Excavations of the Soul
The Loft at Liz’s is delighted to announce the exhibit “Sacred Rites of Passage,” featuring the works of Chiyomi Taneike Longo, Marisa Caichiolo and Polina Perl.
In these paintings and sculptures, the three artists creatively interpret and redefine ideas of religion, spirituality and how the rite of passage has been passed on through oral tradition over time to become a contemporary spiritual metaphor for the journey of life. We are reminded that the universe is a safe place and that life is an adventure.  The pieces in the show, ”Sacred Rites of Passage”, portray a powerful journey of life, each revealing a fascinating undercurrent of womanhood.  The artists open doors to inner worlds that share with us their vision of the undeniable power that women hold in the universe.  This show will clear a passage to reconnect with the spirit.  As we each discover who we are and why we are here, we pass on to others what we have learned.  We travel together through the mystery of life and the wonder of its unfolding perfection.  Chiyomi Taneike Longo, Marisa Caichiolo and Polina Perl invite the viewer to experience this journey with them.

Chiyomi Taneike Longo A native of Japan, Chiyomi Taneike Longo immigrated to the United States in the 1950's.  She studied in Illinois and Hawaii before completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, CA.  "Longo looks for the inner spirit present in her surroundings and in herself.  The paintings mark the path of her exploration, and function in this way as maps of the previously uncharted journey."   -- Debra Koppman,Artweek, March 2007.

Marisa Caichiolo is a painter from Argentina.  Always interested in mysticism and understanding the inner self, she studied Fine Art and Psychology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Her works have been showcased internationally in Brazil, Mexico, France, Spain, Argentina, and China, as well as nationally in New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  She wants the viewer to be aware of the emptiness that covers or uncovers the body when regarding her work.  A symbol is impossible to erase.  “From the very beginning of her painting language, Marisa Caichiolo takes us nearer the cosmic harmony of religious origin.”  -- Rael Salvador, Art Critic, Mexico.

Polina Perl- originally from Riga, Latvia- creates ceramic works that allow her to express herself.  Slabs of clay become canvases for her artwork and the instrument of her communication.  The intimacy of the creation allows her to move through personal excavations inspired by memories, dreams and feelings.  Influenced by her travels to Europe and Asia, she is fascinated with ancient architecture, old and rusted, yet still relevant.
