ACME. is pleased to present a solo exhibition of selected paintings by Roger Herman, a long respected artist and professor in Los Angeles. The exhibition will feature 3 large-scale paintings all from 1990-1992, and more recent paintings on paper mounted on linen that continue Herman's further investigation into pure, rigorous abstraction and print-making techniques. There is a fluidity of calligraphic gestures that link the three early large-scale paintings with the new smaller paintings. Also included in the exhibition will be a selection of recent "book paintings," a traditional format that the artist has employed, presenting a more intimate viewing experience and the paintings as objects.

Roger Herman lives and works in Los Angeles, has shown widely in the United States and Europe. Solo exhibitions include Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles; George Lawson Gallery, San Francisco; Susanne Vielmetter, Los Angeles; Ace Contemporary Exhibitions, Los Angeles and New York; Larry Gagosian Gallery, Los Angeles; the Santa Monica Museum of Art; Museo del Arte Contemporana, Mexico City; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; among others. His work is included in many public and private collections including the Denver Art Museum; the Gruenewald Center at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museo del Arte Contemporanea, Mexico City; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; the Orange County Museum of Art; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Herman has been on faculty for the department of painting and drawing at UCLA since 1990.
