DESCRIPTION

Portez les Chats  curated by Carrie Katz

Portez Les Chats explores interspecies communication between the human animal and the domesticated cat. Privileging the cat audience's sensory capabilities and limitations above our own, a species who happens to be as nonchalant, fussy, and judgmental as they come (while also being intelligent, poised, and observant, of course), this exhibition calls into question the gallery format itself.

As humans and cats differ in their senses (and sensibility), considerations for the feline viewer are many: color selection/exclusion and spatial arrangement designed to allow full access to each piece, deliberate use of motion, dampened ambient sound, peripheral accommodation, appealing scratch-benches, and more.  Human visitors are required to crawl.

Think the art world is fickle? Try appealing to the feline.
