DESCRIPTION

Acclaimed choreographer Reggie Wilson explores intimacy and devotion, libido and love in a seamless collage of music and dance. Eight performers enact the complicated rituals of coupling and the sensual dance of lovers, with the undulating rhythms of traditional African, Caribbean and African American social dance. Woven with rich live harmony and contemporary beats, Wilson draws on stepping, stomping, shouting and strutting to articulate love, loss and the elegant invitations and rejections of people as they court desire. Gliding between the earliest fist and heel dance styles developed during the era of slavery and the step dances that gave rise to sensations like the Lindy Hop and Electric Slide, Tale is a seductive performance that slips through time and place toward a universal state of passion.

Co-presented with the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and the Electric Lodge.
