DESCRIPTION

Nom Kinnear King's portraits have an enchanting spiritual essence. Her subjects express curious imaginations that carry them to picturesque old-world dream realms inspired by folklore and music, where accordions and clarinets trail their steps. The solitary figures play alone, lost in their own magical world but inviting the viewer in through their captivating eyes.

Nom paints in oils on wood and pastels on paper, stylistically influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite movement and magical paintings of John W Waterhouse, impressionism, surrealism, and artists such as Toulouse Lautrec, Edgar Degas, Frieda Kahlo and Gustav Klimt. Her painting techniques create a soft transparency of layers that enhance the blissful feelings her narratives evoke.

Nom is originally from Norfolk in the UK where she studied at Norwich School of Art and Design, going on to work in Melbourne, London and Brighton, She is now based back in Norfolk, painting from her shed in countryside. Nom has exhibited in the UK, Australia and the US, and has been featured in Semi-Permanent, Curvy and Juxtapoz Magazine.
