Patrick Painter Inc. is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by  Greg Colson. The exhibition features a new series of “Consumer Ratings”  pieces and a selection of his “Aggregate Paintings.” Both bodies of work  engage in abstraction by way of consumer analysis and socio-cultural  structures. The “push-pull” of Abstract Expressionism is supplanted by an  array of counteracting behavioral models. Human figure icons are caught in a  web of good intentions: environmental impact studies, self-help tips,  investment planning, and spam prevention. These paintings are executed in  what Colson refers to as his “messy sponge technique,” giving the works a  presence that is at once mechanical and handmade.

Colson has had solo exhibitions throughout the United States and  Europe, including Sperone Westwater, New York; Baldwin Gallery, Aspen;  Kunsthalle Lophem, Bruges, Belgium; Konrad Fischer, Dusseldorf; Galleria  Cardi, Milan; Gian Enzo Sperone, Rome; Art Affairs, Amsterdam; Krannert  Art Museum, Urbana-Champaign; and the Lannan Museum, Lake Worth,  Florida. Colsonʼs work is in many public collections, including the  Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American  Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington,  D.C.; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Panza Collection,  Varese, Italy; Sammlung Rosenkranz, Berlin; and the Moderna Museet,  Stockholm.
