DESCRIPTION

There are few things that represent the age of the automobile and Americana as Route 66 also known as "The Mother Road". Starting from Chicago illinois in the 1920's moving west through California route 66 was the main east-west thoroughfare until the construction of the US Interstate highway system in the mid 1950's and then for the next twenty years it slowly faded away....... Roadside architecture, attractions, motels and fueling stations were some of the things that attracted travelers westward during this time and these things and places became part of the American folklore. From 1923 to 1936 the end of Route 66 was on Broadway whose golden years as Hollywood's theatre district was in full swing.

This show is a collection of photographs of the remnants of that era on Broadway and what is left along the old Mother Road in the southwest and California. Come view these great images of Americana that photographer Mark Peacock has captured along the fabled and historic Route 66
