Community art space First Street Studios,

opening reception for

“Nostalgia”, takes place on

Saturday, July 5, 2008 from 5pm-9 pm.

This group exhibit features the mixed media works of 14 local Angelino artists, painters, photographers and print artists.

The exhibit planned for Saturday, July 5th will commemorate Los Angeles’s diverse communities.  Nostalgia the underlying theme of the show will highlight the feelings, emotions, connections, and memory of our past, present and future here in Los Angeles. “The art reflects the personal process of nostalgia and memory…” said curator Maria Elena Hernandez. The art exhibition attempts to see commonalities in the context of the human conditioning in urban life. The exhibit captures contemporary adaptations of Nostalgia.

Exhibiting new works by: Javier Barboza, Cesar Gonzalez, Rogelio Gutierrez, Jennifer Gutierrez Morgan, Andrea LaHue, Rosalie Lopez, Manuel Lopez, Rick Mendoza, Esmeralda Montes, Stephen Romio, Victor Rosas, Alexander Schaefer, Mariacruz Velasco and Rosalie Villegas.

The artist reception will open from 5-9pm, featuring live performances by East Los Angeles very own EL-Haru Kuroi and Das Radio. Also local Artisans will be vending handcrafted items. It is a free event, however donations are welcomed.  This is a local grass roots gem you wouldn’t want to miss!

First Street Studios hopes to engage the Angelino community in celebrating art and culture, F.S.S educating and mentoring youth thru arts education.
