May 5, 2012 – June 2, 2012

Opening Reception: Saturday, May 5, 2012 /5-8 pm

"You Don't Know Jack", will open May 5th 2012, at Katherine Cone Gallery in Los Angeles. This exhibition focuses on Jack Brogan's recognition as a leading art fabricator, conservator and key collaborator with artists since 1965. Such artists include Frank Gehry, Robert Irwin, John McCracken, Lynda Benglis, Larry Bell, Peter Alexander, Chris Burden, John Eden, Clytie Alexander, and Helen Pashgian.

Three things to know about Jack Brogan are: he is a native of Tennessee, he keeps a flask of whiskey in his pocket, (the good kind), and he is the art world’s most notable art fabricator from 1965 to the present. From the start, Jack’s primary interest has been in developing techniques. It is this interest that sets Jack Brogan apart from other art fabricators and has built him a reputation in the art world for his ability to address any material problem an artist might have. Jack’s expert knowledge of various materials makes possible the artist’s vision.

Jack learned his skill through various jobs, including cabinetmaking, working in the auto industry, concrete blocking, and industrial fabrication. It was this knowledge of high quality custom fabrication that led the Venice art community of the 1960’s to become regular clients of Jack’s. Art fabricated at that time was minimal art: pristine surfaces, stainless steel and resin were used heavily, so sending all of an artist’s work to be done elsewhere was within the spectrum of working methods of that time. While Jack Brogan’s business developed from minimalism, it’s continued vitality demonstrates the adaptability of his methods to differing stylistic and conceptual orientations.

This exhibition is a dedication to Jack Brogan’s contributions to the contemporary art world for the last 47 years.

Now you know Jack… almost.
