DESCRIPTION

Design Loves Art's talk series on art and design continues to question and redefine various levels of creative production in an all-day performance/talk entitled Communication Thorax, in conjunction with Art Los Angeles Contemporary art fair on January 29 from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Communication Thorax features the Muistardeaux Collective -Tom Borden, Eric Gibbons and two Bettas who perform an introduction to, and resolution of, a public lecture and roundtable discussion entitled Design As An Extension of Art Practice. Within the body of the piece, Muistardeaux Collective will join artist Alice Könitz, design curator Christopher Mount, and architect Peter Zellner in a lively discussion. Design Loves Art Director Helen Varola states "Communication Thorax navigates between artistic process as journey and design's compass towards destination."

Muistardeaux Collective is a Bay-area conceptual art duo who recently led Sculpture LA, a month-long multimedia lecture and performance series at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Christopher Mount was until recently the Executive Director of the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Previously, he was Director of Exhibitions and Public Programs at Parsons The New School for Design and a former curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at The Museum of Modern Art for fourteen years.

Alice Könitz currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her MFA from Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf in 1996 and her MFA from California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California in 1999. Her work was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Peter Zellner is the Principal of Zellnerplus, an architectural firm based in Los Angeles. Peter is a faculty member at the Southern California Institute of Architecture. At SCI-Arc he coordinates the Future Initiatives urban design program with David Bergman as well as the Cultural Studies program. He holds a Master in Architecture from Harvard University (1999).
