DESCRIPTION

Caminos de Espejos”

Curated by Eva Malhotra

This is a proposal for an International group exhibition of plastic arts (painting, photography, sculpture) and poetry to be mounted at the Latino Art Museum during the month of October, 2011 as a holiday fundraiser. Opening Reception and Pomona Art Walk will be Saturday, October 8, 6pm-9pm and Closing Reception and Pomona Art Walk will be Saturday, October 29, 6pm-9pm.

The theme of the proposed exhibition is the mirror in all of its meanings, symbolism, associations and implications. It is to be titled “Caminos de Espejos/Mirrored Paths”. A mirror is a universal symbol of reflection, duality, introspection, laberynths, infinity, fantasy, reality, truth, falsity, past/present/future, scrutiny, vanity, examination, purity, criticism, multiplicity, et cetera.

The idea of grouping both plastic arts and poetry is to have the literary and the plastic art play on and inform each other. The idea is to place the written poetry between the paintings/photographs and also have the poets read the poetry on a TV screen for the audience to hear during the exhibition.
