LUIS DE JESUS SEMINAL PROJECTS is proud to present LAEL CORBIN: REMODEL, opening June 6 through July 5, 2008. An artist's reception will be held on Friday, June 6, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Lael Corbin is a recipient of the 2007-2008 San Diego Art Prize. For REMODEL, his first solo gallery exhibition, Corbin will produce a new site-specific installation that utilizes the entire gallery (all three exhibition spaces).

REMODEL is the latest manifestation of Lael Corbin's ongoing study of workspaces. Corbin has long been drawn to these spaces as they often provide a backdrop for exploration, discovery and contemplation. Within these spaces we often encounter unfamiliar objects and processes, forcing us to search for a framework by which to understand or quantify what is happening there. REMODEL specifically addresses Corbin's own experiences and memories tied to residential and commercial construction, some of which extend far back into his early childhood. In this workspace, familiar manufacturing and building processes mix together with dream-like imagery, fragments of information, memory and competing timelines. Here, he explores a physical space in flux and its relationship to his own consciousness.

Lael Corbin is a San Diego based artist. His work has taken the form of installation, individual sculptures and photography. Recent past exhibitions include "Select Mode" at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, "OMA Regional 5" at the Oceanside Museum of Art, "San Diego Art Prize: New Contemporaries" at Simayspace, San Diego, "Research" (with Roman de Salvo) at L Street Fine Art, San Diego, and "Latitude" at Flor y Canton Gallery, San Diego State University. Lael Corbin received his MFA in sculpture from San Diego State University in 2007 and currently teaches at Point Loma Nazarene University.
