The Walk Inside
Blue 5 Art Space, in collaboration with Bleicher Galleries, presents The Walk Inside, a two person exhibit by David Skinner and Kate Jackson; two artists with a unique focus on introspection and self-reflection. Looking inside, not as an escape but as a path of discovery, The Walk Inside is a winding wander into the internal terrain of the artists; opening the door to the viewer for similar exploration.
Kate Jackson has been mining her psyche for subject matter since she began creating art as a teenager, imbuing her mixed media pieces with aspects of her life experience. Her lines and borders bend and shift, and her characters seem isolated, yet part of the same greater whole. Her characters float untethered through time and place, different scenes crash and collide and fall into new forms. This free-flow is central to her work, and is what she admires most in her influences, Basquiat, and Cy Twombly.
David Skinner is known for his beautiful renderings of California landscapes in subdued tones. But amidst gaining popularity for his landscapes, he has been working privately on a series of more personal pieces. Inside, the walls are painted bold and bright in orange and red. These colors project a transcendental backdrop to symbols and text that fade in and out like markers on a forgotten map.
