Auction by the Bay
This month, Bleicher/Golightly Gallery is hosting their very first art auction! With artists from all different genres and styles, this auction will be sure to please every art collector. This will be a genuine, no reserve auction, where all works will go to the highest bidder! Whether you are an auction regular or new to the scene, this will be a fun and entertaining atmosphere that you won't want to miss! More than 50 works will be available by over 25 very talented artists at this auction.
How do I bid?
Although the auction will take place on March 18, 2011, absentee bids will start being taken as soon as the art goes up on March 12, 2011. The current high bid will be posted daily and upon the auction start, we will open the bid at the highest absentee bid. If there are no absentee bids collected on the work, we will open the artwork at $50 and take bid increments up to the final bidder.
Who is participating?
We have a very strong list of contemporary artists participating in this event. Although the list is still being created, the current roster is as follows: Warren Long, Airom Bleicher, Katy Unger, Simone Gad, Stuart Rapeport, David Ohlerking, Nicol Morin, Mimi Treglia, Douglas Alvarez, Terri Berman, Treiops Treyfid, Carol Powell, David Gorman, Leora Lutz, Kevin Ham, Lori Kanary, Dan Van Clapp, Julia Schwartz, Mark Acetelli, Lara Dann, and Rebekah Waites. There are more artists to be added, so please check back for updates.
Are any of the proceeds benefiting a charity?
Yes! There will be a Buyer's Premium at the auction of 10%. This is a common auction house practice that aids in funding the staff and expenses of running the auction. In this case, the full amount of Buyer's Premium that is collected will be donated to Keep-A-Breast, a charity who's mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts, they seek to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.
Who is the auctioneer?
David Gorman has been involved with art auctions for a number of years now, mostly abroad. Recently, he has graduated from Missouri Auction School and is looking to create a fun and informative auction environment in Southern California that all art fans can comfortably attend, despite their current collection or auction experience.
According to the book, Seven Days in the Art World, you can be an “art insider” by being one or more of the following: an art dealer, a curator, an art auctioneer, an artist or a collector. Being all of the above, David is ready exceed your expectations by giving you an auction experience that is unparalleled.
